TerraTrike Rolls Out The Rover (Video)

TerraTrike launched their new low-end, low-cost recumbent trike, the ROVER, and it really looks sweet. They seem to have gone to great lengths to tune the design in hopes of opening up the market to a whole new class of recumbent riders, including many that have never considered using a trike.

Priced at $799 for the 3 speed and $999 for the 8 speed models, the Rover features a higher seat - making it much easier for riders to get on and off. The seat is mounted above a rail straight mast on a sliding mechanism that allows the position to be adjusted accommodating most users.

We like the idea of direct steering with the handles positioned above the wheels, though the Rover handle positioning appears to be a bit high. It would be fine for short rides, but we wonder if the riders arms will get tired during longer adventures.

One pleasant shock was the fact that the Rover is rated for riders up to 400 pounds! Amazing, and way above the ratings for most other recumbent trikes.

New York to Close Broadway to Cars

According to a Gothamist.com article, Broadway will be closed to cars and other motor vehicles for seven blocks starting on Memorial Day. If the experts predictions are correct, this will actually result in a significant improvement in Manhattan traffic.

Another "Don't try this at home" stunt (video)

I’m rapidly becoming addicted to watching video-clips online, and when I run across anything related to kickbiking or cycling it immediately catches my attention. A good example is the video popular clip below that was posted on Google Video without any explanation of the where it was taken or why.

Kickbiking in the News

Kickbiking showed up in a Newsday article about alternative transportation alternatives duringthe New York bus and subway strike. The article featured Rick Muller, an avid kickbiker that can be seen kicking round the streets of Manhattan on a regular basis.

Fantastic Bicycle Touring Website

Tom Swenson's "Bicycle Touring Web Site" is one of the best I've ever run across. The tour reports, the details, the photos, and the overall website design are... yummy. He's included sections covering his tours through some absolutely gorgeous locations like Utah, Colorado, the Blue Ridge Mountains, Bryce and Zion. And he's also included a number of interesting and useful non-tour report articles.
