First Extended Recumbent Trike Adventure (Video)

Saturday was my first chance to take the new TW-Bents Mantis recumbent trike for an extended ride. It happened almost by accident. A quick trip over to the local 7/11, then a glimpse at the cherry blossoms showing off their full glory near the Hanamigawa River close to my home, then what I thought would be just a few minutes up the cycling course that parallels the river…

Three hours and 28 km later I was back home with lots of wonderful memories, a little tired but with absolutely no pain or soreness, and filled with a growing passion to go out and do it again as soon as possible.

Using a recumbent trike for daily commuting (Video)

When I lived in Orange County, California, I frequently had the opportunity to cycle along the Santa Ana River Trail (SART). It was fun, and great exercise, but a little boring given the bland, almost desert like terrian.

I doubt that I would have had the courage and fortitude to cycle the same route, and combine it with surface street legs on a daily basis. So my hat’s definitely off to Glenn, a.k.a. dregerclock, who uses his neat recumbent trike to cycle 13.5 miles (one way) for an hour every day to work and then back again.

That being said, I’m really impressed by both Glenn and his trike. The ride is smooth and appears almost effortless. It totally blew me away when I realized that he is hand-holding the video camera for many of the shots, and is even passing it from hand to hand while continuing his ride, and in at least one case making a major turn. There is no way that I could do that on a regular bicycle.

You know you’re really hooked when you go out for a short kick, and end up covering about 10 km, then go out again in the evening to do another 10 km, then come back and scan the internet for Kickbiking videos…

Life is for living

Keiichi Iwasaki realized how short life is, and didn’t want to waste any of it. So, at the age of 28 he quit his job and started cycling with less than USD$2 in his pocket.

Eight years and five bicycles later, Keiichi has covered over 29,000 miles, cycled through 37 countries, been robbed by pirates, arrested, bitten by a rabid dog, climbed Mount Everest, and has never been bored. He has no bank account or credit cards, and supports himself along the way as a busker (street performer).

Head Mounted Navigation System Using The iPhone (Video)

We’re big iPhone addicts, and when something comes up that combines the iPhone with one of our other addictions – like cycling or foot biking – then it immediately grabs our attention.

The iPhone ARider by UEI/ZeptoTools isn’t a product… at least not yet, but we can hardly wait until it hits the market. In fact, we’d love to do some beta-testing, or product reviews (hint, hint).
