Small truck farmers put homemade scare crows in the fields to protect their crops.
Saturday was hot and humid, but I was determined to get out and get some exercise no matter what the weather. The Hanamigawa course starts just a few minutes from our house and follows the river inland. . .
The slope a gradual but steady climb as the scenery on both sides of the river changes from parks, to truck farms, to apartment buildings, to flowers, and a wild life preserve area. I did around 11 km going up the river before I turned around to head for home and the comfort of our air conditioner.

The course is well laid out and maintained with frequent maps. Although the maps are only in Japanese, they use a lot of icons and are easy to understand even if you can't read the language.

Pollution and trash are always a big concern, so there are frequent signs trying to convince people not to dump trash in the river.

A similar sign featuring a Japanese cat fish.

There's some maintenance taking place under a couple of the bridges that cross over the river above the cycling course.

They seem to be trying to mix concrete in place by dusting it on top of the mud, then using a special attachment that mixes it.

There are quite a few stretches with banks of flowers on both sides of the course.
