I'm really, really tempted to try this, but I know that I would probably end up in the hospital with a few broken bones. Because almost everyone here owns and uses a bicycle, the 'bicycle friendly' infrastructure is pretty highly developed.
There are cycling courses, bicycle parking garages, and even special ramps built into the pedestrian overcrossings to make it very easy to walk your bike up and down the stairs. Of course it is totally illegal to ride your bicycle up and down the ramps. You are supposed to walk up the stairs while guiding your bicycle along the ramp. So, what do most people do?
They go ahead and ride the ramps, of course!
Some folks don't have the strength or balance to ride up the ramps, but many of them do. Going down is a piece of cake - as long as you don't wander off the narrow ramp and onto the stairs. I've done it many times, both up and down, with my mountain bike. Most of the ramps are straight, like the one in the video below, but some of them twist and turn quite a bit. And some of them, in rare cases, turn so much as they drop that you can't see if someone is coming up in the opposite direction until it's too late.
Doing it with a Kickbike only presents one major challenge. I'm afraid that when you hit the transition between ramps the Kickbike will bottom out - not enough ground clearance....
Any takers?
