We were out near Narita Airport last weekend to visit some friends, and on the way back to our home they drove us through the Inba marsh area. We stopped to see a huge rice paddy that's become the annual winter home to over 700 swans.

The local farmers started feeding the swans, just three at the time, about 14 years ago, and every year more and more swans visit the area. A lot of people in the area volunteer their time to manage the sightseer traffic, feed the swans, and explain the whole thing to visitors.
The views in the area are fantastic, including both Mount Tsukuba and Mount Fuji on very clear days, and some pretty dramatic sunsets.

There's a long cycling road through the area that starts close to Toride and connects with other cycling paths at one point or another. There is also a traditional Dutch windmill complete with an annual tulip festival. Go in one direction and you can travel all the way out to Narita. Follow the trails in another direction and you end up connecting with the Hanamigawa trail back over to Tokyo Bay.
The cycling road is perfect for kickbiking as well as cycling and inline skating. The Tokyo Inline Skating Guide (English) lists several skating adventures they've taken in the area along with some great photos.
